63 - Purim Spirit With Rabbi Simon Jacobson (Part 2 of 3)
If the Purim story was such a great miracle, why is G-d's name never mentioned in the entire recorded story of Purim in the Megila? And what was so much of a miracle? How does the story of Queen Esther compare to the miracle of the splitting of the red sea? According to Rabbi Simon Jacobson, in part two of his interview with Rabbi Yosef Katzman, host of A Cable to Jewish Life, the story of purim never ended. He claims that the Baal Shem Tov says that the Purim story replays constantly in your life as well as in mine.

How do Kosher Jews treat the name of God?

[ Answer? ]

The name of God in any language is in and of itself holy, and Jewish law forbids its destruction. Consequently, many Jews will spell it in unusual ways such as G-d. Our Rabbinical advisors permit us to type out the name because on a computer monitor the image of words does not have the solidity and permanence of a document. However, we have been cautioned to ask you not to print out materials that have such a name on them, unless you are prepared to dispose of such a page in the proper manner. (Burial of such pages is best.)
