Kosher-mation 2009 |
| We were to work with one idea for the entirety of this semester. I thought it would be a beneficial to work with a concept that I had a strong background in, Jewish, specifically the laws of kashrut. If I was to demand a higher level of technique and skill required to make a smooth and coherent stop-motion, I thought a simple topic would be ideal. I quickly discovered that in order to explain the rules of kashrut, one would need a series of full-length films; this, was not going to be possible for only person to create in four months. So I decided to focus on the most fundamental aspect of Kosher. Why meat and dairy products must stay separate. The simple answer is because in the Torah (first testament) it is written that one is not to cook a kid [referring to a calf] in its mothers milk because it is considered cruel. Thus, Jews are not suppose to have dairy and meat in the same meal. There are many laws and regulations in the dietary restrictions of Jews, too many to describe fully to an audience with no prior knowledge. Therefore, my kosher-mation is intended for those that do have some prior knowledge of the subject. However, by watching it perhaps you will learn something new about the Jewish way of life. (Most of the footage I shot was not used in the final edit of the stop-motion. Over 3,600 pictures were taken but fewer than 25% were used) |
